PSL 7: Thundering half centuries by Tim David and Rilee Rossouw gave Multan their fourth consecutive win as Shadab Khan’s heroics go in vain.

Batting first for the second successive match Multan lost their talismanic captain Mohammad Rizwan in an unlucky run out. Shan Masood then yet again took the inning forward.

The left hander felt short of another half century but gave Sultans much needed impetus. However his wicket followed by early departure of Shoaib Maqsood left them at 77 for 3 in 10 overs.

Tim David and Riley Rossouw then completely turned the game upside down. The duo smashed United’s bowlers all over the park and accounted for 12 sixes between them.

David reached his 23-ball fifty with the first of the three ixes in de Lange’s 23-run 18th over and Rossouw did the same at the start of the 20th over.

After David’s departure, Khushdil Shah ensured momentum wasn’t lost alongwith Rossouw, who finished with two sixes to take the total to 217/5 in 20 overs, with 107 runs coming in the last six alone.

In response Islamabad started strongly with Paul Stirling holds hitting four boundaries in space of deliveries.

But David Wiley with his slower ones got rid of both openers Stirling and Hales. Shadad Khan promoted himself in the batting order and took charge of the match playing a true fashion blinder.

After powerplay United were 69 for 2, but Khushdil Khan’s excellent spell halted their momentum. He dismissed both Gurbaz and Faheem Ashraf one ball apart in his very first over.

However, Shadab was in no mood to relent, smacking both the Khushdil and Imran Tahir for a six each to keep up with the asking rate.

Asif Ali hit further two sixes of Khushdil before the spinner got his revenge, catching him off his own bowling to leave United with the ask of 79 off 36 deliveries.

Shadab continued the assault hitting hree sixes in the next two overs to keep United in the game.

However, Shadab succumbed to a bouncer by Rumaan Raees, top-edging to David at backward square leg to all but bring curtains on the chase.

Wiley returned in the final over to officially end the chase with his third wicket of the night.

Brief scores:

Multan Sultans 217/5 in 20 overs (Tim David 71, Rilee Rossouw 67*; Mohammad Wasim Jr. 1-39)

Islamabad United 197 all out in 19.4 overs (Shadab Khan 91; Khushdil 4-35, David Wiley 3-38)
