Journalist Fahad Shah Remanded For 5 days In The Srinagar Case. Booked Under Second UAPA.

Kashmiri journalist and editor of the online news portal The Kashmir Walla, Fahad has been booked under the Unlawful activities prevention Act (UAPA) for the second time, his counsel Umair Ronga said Friday.

“Today journalist Fahad Shah was remanded for 5 days in the Srinagar case — the third arrest. He has been booked under UAPA again. Second UAPA in the last 37 days,” Umair Ronga tweeted.

The Jammu Kashmir Police had said that Fahad Shah is wanted in three cases for “glorifying terrorism, spreading fake news & inciting the general public for creating Law and order situations”.

Police said that FIR No. 70/2020 of PS Safa Kadal Srinagar, FIR No. 06/2021 of PS Imam sahib, Shopian are registered against Fahad Shah and he has currently been arrested in FIR No. 19/2022 of Police Station Pulwama.

At least fifty-eight organizations in February called for the release of Kashmiri journalist, Fahad Shah in detention since February 04.

The press freedom organizations wrote the letter on Monday addressed to Jammu Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha seeking his intervention to release Kashmiri journalists.

The Jammu Kashmir Police had summoned Fahad Shah- editor of Srinagar-based magazine ‘The Kashmir Walla’ regarding a story his magazine reported after the Pulwama encounter on January 30.

Fahad Shah was arrested on February 4 this year by the Pulwama police.

He was granted bail by a special court under the NIA Act after 22 days in custody, on February 26.

But he was subsequently arrested by the Shopian police and was granted bail on 05 March.

After the court in Shopian granted him bail, his was re-arrested and Lodged in Safa Kadal police station for another FIR registered against him in the Srinagar Police station.
