31 Couples Tie Knot In Mass Marriage Function In Srinagar.

At least 31 couples from underprivileged families were married during a mass marriage ceremony organised by the Helping Hand Foundation NGO of Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar on Wednesday.

The marriage was witnessed by dozens of people. Helping Hand’s NGO has previously held such functions, but this year’s event, with 31 couples, was the biggest so far, organisers said.

President of NGO, ‘Helping Hands foundation’, Umer Ahmad told KNO that “as per the latest survey held in J&K, almost 35000 females and 45000 males are overage now but as per our survey, almost 75000 males are now overage, who can’t afford marriage because of unemployment and financial issues.”

According to organisers, there is a lot of expense incurred on marriages. We are organising a mass ceremony to spread the message among people to cut down on excessive expenses. Several couples who are getting married here are educated. This will help in sending a message that educated people are coming forward and benefit destitute families from far areas villages.

The process for couples to have their marriage organised is simple, Umer President Helping Hands said. Our aim in organising such a marriage is only to stimulate simple Nikkah, as dowry and other evil rituals have become a headache for poor people. Another member said that in present times, many superfluous traditions have sneaked into our society, and as a result, the holding of marriages has become unaffordable for many.

He said that the NGO has seen many cases in a society where women in their thirties and even forties are not getting married due to these customs.

“We want to spread a positive message through this mass marriage ceremony where we got 21 couples married from different districts of the Valley to make the marriage functions cheaper than the cheapest,” he said.

The organisers wanted affluent people to think before spending lavishly on their weddings. Those who spend lakhs on the weddings of their children should first see whether their neighbours have been able to marry their wards.

We are fast turning into a hedonistic society where we hardly bother to look for our poor neighbours or relatives. ”

A couple from central Kashmir said that they are happy that their marriage has been held here with simplicity and that it too was witnessed by dozens of people.

They said that all the things were afforded by the NGO and they were only asked to submit their documents.

Following that, the NGO verified our credentials and today by the grace of Allah, we got married. They said that for us, getting married was impossible because we were unable to afford the marriage. With the help of this NGO, our marriage has taken place without any problems.

The NGO, Helping Hands Foundation, said, “It is the people who are donating all the things for these couples.” We are just taking our progress and finalising things. We are providing everything for the bride, excluding the jewellery.

Since we started the NGO, more than 330 couples have tied their knots with the help of this NGO. A member of an NGO said that people are finding brides for themselves on their own. We are helping them by providing assistance and other things for their marriages.

Those who are approaching us after finalising their partner Our team is verifying their credentials properly and, after proper verification, this NGO is helping them.

He continued that they have built Tehsil, District committees that are fetching the details of the underprivileged people and, after getting the factual report, their marriages are held with simplicity.
