Data Reveals Jammu Kashmir Pays Second Highest Tax On Petrol In North India.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas’s data that reveals that Jammu and Kashmir pays the second highest tax on petrol across North India.

As per Stats of India—an independent organization exploring India through data and visualizations—for every 100 rupees of petrol, people in J&K pay 45.9 rupees as tax on petrol, second highest tax on petrol in North India followed by the state of Rajasthan where for every 100 rupees of petrol, 50.8 rupees goes as tax.

The Stats of India has used Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell’s data which is under the ambit of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. As per the petroleum planning & Analysis Cell’s data, for every 100 rupees, J&K pays over 30 Rupees as central tax.

Pertinently, in 7 states, half of what a customer pays is collected as tax. These seven states include Maharashtra where 52.5 rupees goes as tax per 100 rupees of petrol, Andhra (52.4 rupees),Telangana (51.6 rupees), Rajasthan (50.8 rupees), MP (50.6 rupees), Kerala (50.2 rupees) and Bihar (50.0 rupees).

According to individual data, In J&K for every litre of petrol, the Central Government charges Rupees 32.90 per litre as a tax.

Among the metro cities, fuel rates are still the highest in Mumbai. Fuel prices vary across the states due to Value Added Tax (VAT).

Pertinently, in Ladakh for every 100 rupees consumers pay 44.6 rupees as tax. In other states of North India, for every 100 rupees Himachal Pradesh pays 44.4 rupees, Punjab pays 44.6, Uttarakhand pays 44.1 rupees, Haryana 45.1, Delhi 45.3 and Uttar Pradesh pays 45.2 rupees as Tax.
