Earlier a book for government libraries was found to contain content which was deemed anti national by the authorities and was later withdrawn after the controversy erupted.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha ordered a comprehensive audit and inspection of educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir to check the availability and circulation of books and literature containing alleged anti-national, separatist or objectionable content.
Chairing a high-level meeting of senior officers, Sinha reviewed action taken over the circulation of such literature in educational institutions and directed authorities to put in place an effective mechanism to prevent its procurement, distribution and availability.
The directive covers universities, government and private colleges and schools, as well as public and private libraries.
Heads of institutions will be required to affirm within a specified period that no such material is available on their premises, while the institutions will also undergo comprehensive audits and inspections.
Officials briefed the Lieutenant Governor about the recovery of books allegedly glorifying separatism and said those responsible for procuring, approving or circulating such literature would face strict legal consequences.
