Director General of Police, J&K, Dilbag Singh has said that the prevailing situation in Kashmir is much better and peaceful in the valley.

“The situation is much better now,” the DGP said this while speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of “run for peace and unity”, an event, organized on the occasion of National Unity Day.

About 700 children, youths and adults participated in the run.

The National Unity Day is being celebrated across the country with countrymen taking pledge for strengthening the sovereignty and integrity of the country.

He said that people do not want violence and they condemn it. “There were few violent incidents, but people are on a large scale condemned those incidents,” he said. “Now, the situation is better.”

The J&K police chief said that people want development. “You saw the participation here which is an indication that people want to move towards peace and development and they condemn the violence.”

Dilbag Singh urged the youth to desist from taking to violent path. He also appealed the local militants to shun the gun. “You (militants) are working against your parents, your society and your people. Everyone is affected by this and your own life is lost.”

He said that as Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that instead of gun or stones, youth should carry books in their hands, and build their future and work towards J&K’s prosperity and progress, “I have the same message that your and the society’s betterment will not happen by picking weapons, but pens, books and working along with your parents and society,” he said.

ADGP Armed Javid Gilliani, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, DIG CKR Sujit Kumar, SSP Srinagar Sandeep Chaudhary, Commandants of Armed/IRP Battalions and other gazetted officers of APHQ & Kashmir Zone attended the flag off and prize distribution ceremonies.
