ACB Arrests Engineer With Rs.10K Bribe.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested an Executive Engineer for demanding and accepting a bribe for releasing payment of a contractor in Anantnag district.

The anti-graft body received a complaint from a contractor alleging that Farooq Ahmad Rather, Executive Engineer, Pahalagam Development Authority (PDA) was demanding bribe of Rs10, 000 for processing his file for release of payment for the already executed and released capex works bills in block Achabal under MGNAREGA, an ACB spokesperson said Saturday.

Upon receiving the instant complaint, he said, prima facie offence U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was found made out. He said consequently, case FIR No. 08/2022 was registered in PS ACB Anantnag and investigation taken-up.

During the course of investigation, the spokesperson said, a team was constituted that laid a trap and caught red handed the PDA Executive Engineer, while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 10000 from the complainant.
“He was arrested on the spot by the ACB team. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses. Further investigation is going on,” the Bureau spokesperson added
