Air and surface traffic disrupted as a thick layer of fog engulfed many parts of Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 23:Air and surface traffic was disrupted on Monday as a thick layer of fog engulfed many parts of Kashmir valley leading to poor visibility.Meteorological Department has forecast similar weather conditions for Tuesday and wet spell later in the week due to western disturbances.

Speaking to Kashmir Headlines, Director, Director, Met Office, Sonam Lotus said: “Foggy weather will continue tomorrow (Tuesday) as well but it will not be as foggy as witnessed during past two days.”

“Due to western disturbances, light to moderate rains would lash plains while as there is possibility of snowfall in upper reaches of Valley on November 26,” he added.
Lotus said weather will mainly remain dry upto November 26. “There will also be dip in temperature in coming days but there is no forecast of heavy snowfall or harsh weather ahead,” he said.
Many parts of the Valley witnessed dense fog in the morning leading to traffic jams as motorists drove cautiously due to poor visibility.
The fog affected air traffic as flights at Srinagar airport were cancelled.
Director, Srinagar airport, R N Shinde told Kashmir Headlines  that all flights were cancelled due to poor visibility.
Shinde said air tickets of passengers who were scheduled to fly on Monday will be reimbursed.
“If there will be clear visibility on Tuesday we will operate additional flights for the passengers whose flights were cancelled,” he added.
Train service was also disrupted. A railway official said trains were delayed due to poor visibility. “Though trains left from Srinagar and Budgam railway stations as per schedule, but the speed of the trains was very slow,” he said.
