Bangladesh beat Australia by 10 runs in the 3rd T20I of the 5 match series to register a historic series win.
On this red letter day in cricketing history, the hosts won their first ever series against Australia across all formats.
Defending a paltry 128 in Dhaka, Bangladesh delivered a memorable performance to seal the biggest series triumph in their history.
Bangladesh were jolted early as Hazlewood and Zampa removed both openers. Shakib ul Hassan and captain Mahmudullah took charge and formed a partnership of little over 40 runs. Mahmudullah continued to lead the way and scored a half century.
Cameos from others helped Bangladesh post 127 runs, a total that looked gettable on the day. The standout effort from Australia was by Nathan Ellis who took a hattrick on international debut, a rare feat.
Australia were seemingly cruising after losing an early wicket. Ben Mcdermott and Mitchell Marsh put up 60+ runs as the Aussies appeared to be in control. The Bangladesh bowling spinners in particular however didn’t allow them to run away with the game.
Tight bowling combined with aggressive cricket stifled Australia. And when Mitchell Marsh departed after scoring 51 runs with Australia with 94 for 4, it was anyone’s game.
The visitors still found it in them to claw back the chase and needed 23 of 12 balls. Muztafizur stepped up and gave away a solitary run on the penultimate over to turn the tide. He finished with figures of 0 for 9 from his four overs. The last over was nervy after the first ball was hit for six. But ultimately Bangladesh prevailed, leaving Australia in a spot of bother with T20 World Cup not far away.
