Cricket in Olympics? ICC to bid for inclusion in the global event.

The ICC will be pushing for the inclusion of Cricket in the Olympics in the near future with Los Angeles event in 2028 the prime target.

A Working Group to lead the bid has been assembled by the ICC. Cricket has only featured once in the Olympics in the year 1900. During that Olympic event in Paris Great Britain and hosts France competed in cricket as the only two teams.

Cricket at Commonwealth Games

An opportunity for Cricket to showcase what it could bring to a global event like Olympics will be at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 in Birmingham, UK. The Commonwealth Games is a big occasion in itself and will draw great interest from cricket lovers.

Since USA has a 30 million cricket fans the L.A Olympics would be a great opportunity for the sport to make a mark. This will also fall in line with ICC’s vision of making the gentleman’s game a truly global sport. An appearance at Olympics could do wonders for the image of the game worldwide.
