Curfew Imposed, Internet Suspended In Bhaderwah, After Protests Over Insulting Remarks Against Prophet.

Curfew has been imposed in Bhaderwah, Jammu after protests over insulting remarks against Prophet (pbuh).

Tensions flared after alleged inflammatory speeches were delivered from a mosque, officials said.

Massive protest rallies had been taken out from the Jamia Masjid of the main town of Bhaderwah in the Chenab valley area on Thursday during which slogans were raised against the Bhartiya Janta Party.

Police have registered a case over the alleged inflammatory speeches and warned people against taking the law into their own hands.

“Curfew has been imposed as a precautionary measure in view of communal tension,” an official said, adding that additional security personnel have been deployed in the area to ensure peace.

According to officials, inflammatory speeches were made during a protest against derogatory remarks made against Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Purported video clips of the inflammatory speeches went viral on social media.

“Action has been taken (over inflammatory speeches). A case has been registered under IPC sections 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) at Police Station Bhaderwah,” the official said.

“Anyone who takes the law into his own hands will not be spared,” he said.

Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that amid protests, a complete shutdown was observed in the Chenab valley area against the disrespectful comments made by the former BJP spokesperson.

“There has been no incident of discretion of temple anywhere today by the protesting Muslims. The only incident of discretion that happened was three days back and Police is investigating the matter. Social media users who have no clue about what is happening in Bhaderwah are spreading animosity against various groups who have co-existed for centuries in this region,” Abdul Rashid, a local said.

Pertinenly, media reports said that the temple of Shri Vasuki Nagraj Maharaj at Kailash Kund, Bhaderwah was vandalized by unknown persons a few days ago after which the Police lodged a complaint and is investigating the matter
