Delimitation Proposal: Centre says NC Satisfied With Criteria, Party Declines To Sign.

After the Delimitation Commission announced its proposals in its first paper, Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Monday said that National Conference (NC) leaders got satisfied with the parameters, however, NC say they will not be signatory to the draft report of the Delimitation Commission on J&K in its present form.

Speaking to media persons, the union minister Jitendra Singh said, “All the associate members committed themselves to cooperate with the functioning of the Commission.

The Commission has done a tremendous job. We must appreciate that they had followed certain laid down parameters on the basis of which they have come out with the documents which are very objectively done.”

He said NC members were also satisfied with the parameters which were being followed by the Delimitation Commission.

“The associated members regardless of their party and political affiliations not only appreciated the work done by the Delimitation Commission but also committed that they would in the future also extend their cooperation for the rest of the exercise,” he said.

Asked about elections, the union minister said, “We have no idea when the elections will be held. It will be decided by the Election Commission which is an independent body and the government does not interfere with the functioning of the constitutional body.”

NC Decline to sign

Hours after the meeting, which proposed giving more additional seats to Jammu division than Kashmir, the party also termed “malicious” Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh’s reported comments in the media that the NC was “satisfied” with the way the commission had completed its report.

“Misrepresenting and distorting the facts with malicious intention! Very misleading statement.

“We have clearly expressed our resentment over the draft of the Delimitation Commission, the biassed process of seat sharing. The party will NOT be a signatory to this report,” the party said on its official Twitter handle.
