Ensure Every Facility Ahead Of Muharram; SMC Commissioner Directs Officials

The Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), on Wednesday directed the departments to provide every basic facility to the Shia-dominated area in Srinagar without any inconvenience. 

According to an SMC official, commissioner SMC Athar Amir Khan also took a detailed tour of Shia-dominated areas in the City to review the arrangements ahead of the upcoming Muharram-ul-haram.

The officer stated that Commissioner visited ZadibalImambargah and Mir Shamas Iraqi Shrine in Zadibal, where he directed to upgrade the sanitation and ensure other services such as street light functionality, adequate water supply, desalting of blocked drains with immediate cleaning of muck from the routes where Mohharam processions will be taken out, and other services.

Athar also took an extensive tour of the Zadibal area, the entire stretch where the processions will take place, the officer said.

Commissioner on the occasion passed on directions that a team of officers from all wings of SMC including Sanitation, electric, PHE, Electric, Drainage and works wings will be in constant contact with the representatives or the members of the several delegations representing various Imambargahs to fulfill the requirements and put all necessary arrangements in place for Muharram. 

He later visited ImambargahGulshanabad and ImambargahHasnabad, where he met several delegations and inhabitants of the areas.

He gave them a patient hearing and assured them that all their demands and requirements for smooth and successful Mohharam days would be taken care of.

At Hasnabad Imambargah, Commissioner SMC, besides reviewing the arrangements for Muharram, also took stock of various ongoing SMC works, including the repair of toilet blocks, fencing of graveyards, and construction of a vital link lane between Naidyar and Hasnabad.

He was accompanied by the Chairman of the Public Health and Sanitation Committee, Arif Raja, several corporators, and all senior officers of the corporation, including Joint Commissioners’ S.E. Drainage, Executive Engineers from left and right river works, Executive Engineer Electric wing, Executive Engineer PHE/water works, Executive Engineer City Roads R&B, Chief Sanitation Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Chief Anti Encroachment Officer, Sanitation Officers, Ward Officers, and other officials.
