Euro 2020 Round of 16: Denmark thrash Wales; Italy see off Austria in extra time.

Denmark continued their inspiring Euro 2020 journey in by thrashing Wales and progressing to the quarter finals.

Kasper Dolberg was the tormentor in chief scoring first in the 27th minute and then again in the 48th minute. And Wales never really recovered after that.

Joakim Maehle added a third goal in front a jubilant Danish support. Wales’ youngster Harry Wilson was shown a straight red card before Martin Braithwaite finished the game for his first and Denmark’s fourth goal of the night.

Denmark move on to the next round and this performance shows they will hold little fear, no matter who they face next.

Italy see off stubborn Austria.

Italy had to dig deep to beat Austria in their last 16 tie. After a goalless 90 minutes, the game went to extra time where the Azzurri prevailed .

This was Austria’s first game in the knockout stage of the European Championship and they battled all the way. Marko Arnautovic had a goal disallowed after a VAR check. While Italy had the better chances throughout the game, Austria put in a stubborn defensive display.

After a lackluster first 90 minutes for the so far impressive Italians, substitute Federico Chiesa broke the deadlock in the 95 minute to give his side the lead. Ten minutes later Matteo Pessina scored again to end Austrian resistance. Although Austria pulled a goal back through Sasa Kalajdzic in the 114th minute, Italy saw the game through to progress.

Italy are now on a winning streak of 12 games and at this rate its hard to see them not going deep into the tournament. Through to the quarter finals Roberto Mancini’s side will be strong favorites to go all the way as they look to win a first major title since their 2006 World Cup triumph.
