FIR Against Budgam Residents Demanding Compensation For Their Land.

People in  Pallar area of Budgam are alleging that the administration is not paying them the deserved compensation for the land that has been taken by the Government of India for a ring road project in the district, while and FIR has been lodged against the residents as well.

“They came suddenly with police and started working on ring road bypass,” said a resident of village Pallar situated in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Around 150 Kanals of land was taken by Government of India for the ring road project in district Budgam’s Pallar village in 2017.

The residents of Pallar, Budgam, said that they are not satisfied with rates that the government was providing them for the 150 kanals that were taken in 2017. Since then, there is an ongoing dispute between the administration and the land holders of Pallar, Budgam.

“Days ago, they came with police and started work on the disputed ring road. We tried to resist this move, however, an FIR was lodged against us, ” Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Pallar told The Kashmiriyat.

Shafi said that the land belonged to the people and not the government. Years ago, in the same area, the administration took some kanals of land for a power project. The residents were given 47 lakh to per kanal.

“And here for the ring road bypass, Pallar, they are only giving us 18 lakh fifty thousand for a kanal which is not sufficient for us,” he told The Kashmiriyat.

As per the market rates a Kanal of land in the area costs around 60 Lacs at the minimum.

Meanwhile, former MLA of Budgam, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi expressed his resentment while tweeting via his official Twitter handle, “FIR lodged against residents of Pallar Budgam for demanding a genuine compensation for their land which is taken by GoI for some ‘Ring road’. I am asking Budgam administration, what are you up to? How can demanding compensation be a crime? What banana republic is this?”

The numberdar (Village head) of the village, Shabir Hussain, said that the authorities were not paying, and they had started the work on road by force. “Nobody dares to speak anything. They have registered an FIR on one of the village residents, what can we do now?” He said.

He also added that whosoever is going to the spot, police stops them.

“We appeal the L.G administration to look into the matter and provide us compensation as early as possible. We are not satisfied with these rates,” Hussain said.
