The J&K High Court has issued a ban on use of plastic in parks, green spaces and open spaces in Srinagar and Jammu.
The court also banned constructions in such places, but directed authorities to construct washrooms and toilets at appropriate places. It also directed to construct proper pathways wherever feasible.
The High Court order came in response to a (PIL) on lack of parks and gardens in J&K.
In an order passed on July 15 this year, which was made available on today (August, 18), the bench directed all the authorities maintaining those parks to see that no such plastic or plastic material is thrown in the parks/ green spaces except in the dustbins which shall be cleared periodically.
In order to minimize illegal activities allegedly being carried out in some of the parks/ open spaces, the court directed the authorities to ensure that all boundary walls/ reelings of the parks be kept transparent so that people from outside can have an eye on the activities inside.
