Jammu residents on Wednesday staged a protest against the Jammu Kashmir administration’s order to install ‘Smart Meters’ across the region, saying only elected government can install them.
The protest was led by president Mission Statehood Jammu Kashmir outside the Janipur court road.

He said that the governor’s administration has issued an order to install 22,000 smart meters in Jammu Kashmir from February 15, against which we are protesting. “We will not allow meters to be installed in Jammu it should be up to the elected government to decide when and how to install meters,” he added.
He also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi return big power projects, especially the Salal and Uri Hydro Project back to Jammu Kashmir.
He urged upon the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to stop the installation of the smart meters in Jammu and stop the privatisation of electricity.
