J&K Delimitation Commission Submits Final Report, Jammu Allotted 6 More Seats, Kashmir One.

The Delimitation Commission on Jammu and Kashmir which met in New Delhi submitted its final report on Thursday.

According to the report, the commission has recommended increasing the number of Assembly seats. For Kashmir, it has been suggested to increase the seats from 46 to 47, while the Jammu region will have 43 seats instead of 37.

Now, J&K will have 90 Assembly seats.

The six new Assembly constituencies in the Jammu region are expected to be carved out from Rajouri, Doda, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Kathua, and Samba districts.

The one new seat for the Kashmir Valley would be reportedly be carved out from the Kupwara district.

The delimitation exercise was completed in two years. The panel was given two extension to complete the task.

The Delimitation Commission was headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. It also comprised of Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra and the J&K electoral officer as ex-officio member.

The Commission was constituted to redraw the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies of J&K.

With the commission submitting its final report, the Election Commission is expected to announce Assembly elections in the Union Territory of J&K.The Assembly elections are expected to be held in October 2022.
