Manu Bebo is a Kashmiri transgender makeup artist who has broken the traditional mould of the third gender in the valley by becoming an expert in bridal and party makeup.
Her journey has seen her come from being ridiculed to be one of valley’s talented makeup artists. She has not only making a name for herself in Kashmir but people outside as well recognize her work and book makeup appointments with her.
Born in a middle class family in Nawakadal, Srinagar, Manu was originally called Mansor, but she realized herself to be different than people around her. This she says was her inner calling to be a girl. She began dressing up as a girl and was mocked for doing so and belittled.
This at times brought her into conflict with her family and Manu had to stand her ground. Without receiving much support she decided to pursue this new found lease of life in her and knew her happiness lied within her.
Bebo soon took up makeup as a unique choice for a career for transgender community in Kashmir. In just 4 years Manu has garnered massive support on social media for her work and pretty make up.
Today her makeup tutorials are usually viewed by hundreds of people.
She has made a name for herself in Srinagar as a make up artist. At first she said people were skeptical inviting her to do bridal makeup, but with her makeup skills she brushed away those doubts.
Many people she says have told her how she is doing well for herself while being a inspiration to others by boldly facing challenges. A huge change from her early days as a transgender.
Now Manu doesn’t care about detractors and says everyone should focus on themselves and says one should never lose hope and believe in Allah as He will take care of you.
Manu’s biggest achievement is that she has given the transgender community hope that there is a life and way for them to be financially secure and this has a massive impact in our society.
Manu Bebo continues to thrive as a makeup artist while having even bigger dreams and with it she inspires other to pursue their most high ambitions without fear.
