Living The Dream: Mir Sarwar.

Mir Sarwar is an actor from Kashmir who has starred in a number of high profile Bollywood movies while also contributing to Kashmir’s film industry.

Having an interest in sports from an early age, Sarwar has a national medal in kick boxing, Taikuwando, Wushu and a gold medal in Muay Thai.

He had a simple way of seeing things, win some medals, get selected for internationals, then get a government job, get married and settle down, but ironically the script of his life was written different.

While studying in Delhi, he turned towards modelling and saw this an opportunity to do something different with his career. His first assignment as a model came in 1999.

After a while he was left craving for more taste of the show biz and wanted to act.

This was a tough road as Sarwar recalls having to face numerous challenges and hardships, living on his own he took odd jobs while still pursuing his dream of being an actor.

Sarwar got his first break in acting in theatre when Bappi Bose took him for a play titled ‘Julius Caesar k akhri sath din‘, Last Seven Days of Julius Caesar. From there his career kicked on.

The Kashmiri actor slowly and steadily found his way into the Bollywood door and kicked it wide open. Appearances in block busters like Bajrangi Bhaijan and Phantom came in 2015 and was followed by further roles in hits like Dishoom, Jolly LLB 2, Ittefaq and much more in subsquent years.

The model turned actor made further inroads in Kashmiri cinema as well with key roles in Kashmir Daily and Half Widow. In 2019 he would appear in Kesari, which was that year’s biggest hit and Notebook. Recently he was a part of Laxmii and Sheershah which was a huge hit in 2021.

Apart from working in Bollywood and Tollywood movies, Mir Sarwar has contributed to a lot of cinema projects in Kashmir, as he believes Kashmir cinema and actors could compete at the highest level if they are given a proper platform.

After spending two decades in the industry, Sarwar’s creative thirst is a new as it was when he first came to the scene. He now wants to make films based on Kashmir which will tell the story of a common Kashmiri and show a different side of the people compared to what has been usually portrayed in other movies.

Mir Sarwar also believes given the current crop talent and artists in Kashmir it is better that they come together under one banner and work to improve the film making scene in Kashmir.

He also stresses that schools and colleges should keep theatre as a part of their curriculum. This he says isn’t only fore those who want to pursue acting, but it will help youngsters to improve their speaking skills and boost their confidence in other walks of life.

Mir Sarwar has shown that talent and hard work always find a way to succeed no matter how challenging the aspirations are. He has also exhibited that perseverance is the true skill of any artist or person if he has to be successful
