Musaib Bhat, a well known Kashmiri entertainer and new age comedian has come up with another hit song after his ‘Downtown‘ number broke the Kashmiri internet. ‘Gaam Ti Shahar’ (village and city) a song that intends to unite Kashmir under one slogan, we have the best of both the worlds.
At a time when internet space in Kashmir is occupied by people indulging in non sensical attempts to create a divide between villages and city, Musaib has come up with a unique way of uniting people with a simple message.
In this song the YouTuber talks about how every corner of Kashmir contributes to its rich culture and tradition. He also points out how villages and city exist in a beautiful correlation. A correlation without which Kashmir won’t be the same.
The song’s lyrics cover the fact how Kashmir is all inclusive of all its regions whether rural or urban. It highlights the subtle things like ‘Chakkar’ and ‘Wanwan‘ Kashmiri wedding singing customs.
The song divulges into how Nishat and Pahalgam are the go to destinations for Kashmiri people, Nishat for people coming from villages while Pahalgam for people of the city.
Further parts of this already hit number reveal something that almost every Kashmiri household can relate to. Pampore’s kong( Saffron) Kehwa, Chaar Kangir and Shopian’s apple, things that you may have used at least once in your home regardless whether you are from a remote village or living in the heart of the city.
Musaib said while speaking on ‘Taarukk Open Mic’ that this ‘Gaam Shahar’ divide is nonsense and it means nothing. He stresses that at the time of need we all come together and help each other like during the floods of 2014. The comedian further says that city is only lively with people from all over Kashmir working and visiting it, while villages are explored by the people from Srinagar.
He also says that some artists tried to push this ‘Gaam Shahar’ ideology, when infact the masses have always remained united.
Musaib’s song is a message that every Kashmiri needs to hear and contemplate upon and as he says in this catchy lyrical tune that Kashmir has two blessings- one is ‘Gaam‘ and the other is ‘Shahar‘. Indeed our land is blessed in this way, we should remain united and rise above any attempts to divide us.
