Srinagar Metro Project to cost Rs 4,892 crore.

The ambitious metro project in Srinagar is set to cost around Rs. 4,892 an official has revealed.

“The project is expected to be completed in four years. It alignment has been already approved by the government,” he said, adding that the J&K government had earlier this year submitted its revised detailed project report to the Government of India.

He said the first phase of the project involving two corridors will have 24 stations.

“It will have two corridors. The first corridor spread over 12.5 kilometers will be from Indira Nagar to HMT. The second corridor with equal length will be from Hazuribagh to Osmanabad,” he said, adding that both corridors will have 12 stations each.

The official said around 491 kanals of land would be acquired for the project.

“Of which, 12.76 hectares is state land, 11.85 hectares is private land and 0.24 hectare is central government land,” he said.

It is worthwhile to mention that the DPR of the project was submitted to the Centre for appraisal and funding last year after the administrative council headed by then LG G.C. Murmu approved in February 2020.

In the last week of August this year, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha had said that the UT administration was awaiting the Union Cabinet nod for the project.

“We have submitted the proposal for the metro rail, and the Housing and Urban Development Ministry has circulated the cabinet note in this regard,” he had said
