Australia showed their title credentials with a convincing 8 wicket win over Sri Lanka in Group 1 of Super 12 in the T20 World Cup.
Batting first Sri Lanka made a bright start as Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka took them to 78 runs inside 10 overs. But Adam Zampa got rid of Asalanka and Aussies made a comeback in the game.
Despite some solid efforts, Sri Lanka struggled to get away from the web of Zampa who finished with 12 runs in 4 overs, taking 2 wickets. Sri Lanka finished with 154/6 in 20 overs.
David Warner has come under much criticism for his recent form, with struggles in IPL transferring into the World Cup. But i this match Warner showed why on his day he can single handedly change the course of the game.
David Warner (65) and Aaron Finch (37) took the game out of Lanka’s hands with the first wicket coming when Finch departed with score 70 runs in 7 overs.
Warner’s return to form saw him hit 10 fours as he scored 65 of just 42 balls, before departing in the 15th over.
Steve Smith then saw the game out for Aussies with Marcus Stoinis, as Australia made it two wins out of two with a marquee clash against England on Saturday.
