The students alleged that they were forced by a teacher, namely Gowhar Farooq Ganaie, to do the cleaning task, including sweeping, and forced them to clean the school’s bathrooms.

After the intervention of the Zonal Education Officer, the school has been closed down, and an investigation has been taken up.

An order issued in this regard by CEO Kulgam, M. A. Rather reads, “Pending enquiry into his conduct, Gowhar Farooq Ganie, teacher at PS Tengen Zone Yaripora, is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and he shall remain attached to this office during the suspension period.”

The CEO has also constituted a committee of three members, and the committee has been directed to furnish the report within four days.

A separate order in this regard was issued and reads, “In the backdrop of the suspension of Gowhar Farooq Ganie, Teacher PS Tengemn Zone Yaripora in view of his manhandling of the Head of Institution and other staff members, the following officers are hereby nominated as enquiry officers to conduct the indepth enquiry in this behalf and furnish the report to the undersigned within four days positively; Principal BHSS Yaripora, Principal HSS D.H. Pora, and Zonal Education officer, Yaripora (DDO).

As per local residents, the two locals schools were merged, and they are functioning as a single school now.

They said on Friday, one of the teachers at the school forced the students to clean the classroom and washrooms, which they (students) refused.

On denying the cleaning of classrooms, the said teacher thrashed students mercilessly, resulting in the nearby teacher coming and having a heated argument with the teacher.
