Who is Eva B? Read About The Hijabi Rapper From Pakistan.

Coke Studio Pakistan, made its much awaited return a few weeks. The first episode featured legendary singers Abida Parveen and Naseebo Lal in now the famous hit ‘Tu Jhoom‘.

However, it was the second song ‘Kana Yaari’ a Baloch folk song mixed with pop that got everyone talking. The song featured Kaifi Khalil as the lead vocalist and Abdul Wahab Bugti playing the Tambura. While the song itself was a hit, it was the female hijabi rapper Eva B that has everyone’s attention.

So who is Eva B? What is the Meaning Behind Her Name?

Eva B, is the first female rapper from Balochistan in Pakistan.

In an earlier interview with a media outlet, she highlighted the meaning behind her name:

“Eva B under the aforementioned pseudonym where Eva is a tribute to the first woman on Earth, Eve, like the latter she too is a first in the female rapping community in the country. The added letter B is a nod to her Baloch identity,” she explained the outlet in a 2021 interview.

Speaking to Coke Studio, the rapper recently shared how she was attracted to rap songs after listening to a number by Eminem. “I was blown away and fascinated by what I had heard. I went on to ask my friends what this music is really about. I never thought that music could be like this,” she said.

Explaining the complexities of love, friendship and betrayal, the song has a direct message for listeners with the oft-repeated line: “They befriend you and then betray you, there is no sign of love here.”

Her later music collaborations include one with Momina Mustehsan at the Lux style awards. She keeps her identity hidden under a hijab because it makes her feel anonymous yet empowered.

Despite coming to limelight now, Eva B has done many rap songs some of them in Urdu that are worth listening to.

Raps like ‘Quarantine Baji‘, ‘Qalam Bolega‘, Kitna Badal Gaya Insaan Khushnawees are some of her best Urdu raps.

Eva started off her rapping career with a throwback rap featuring her cousin Meer that featured all the major events from 2018. The rap received tons of positive feedback and that was everything Eva needed to pursue her dream.

Eva rose to fame with her remake of ‘apna time ayega’ from Bollywood’s Gully Boy which led to people calling her the ‘gully girl’.

She pushed out a music video in collaboration with designer Zari Faisal and Patari.

Her song was also featured in the Aurat March, and was an instant hit.

After Eva got her family’s approval, she decided to proceed with a veil to keep her identity a secret and rapped her heart out. And there has been absolutely no stopping her since then.

Eva plans on talking about big and bold issues like unemployment, peace, child marriages and education via her rap songs. She also performed with Momina Mustehsan at the Lux Style Awards 2019.
