Probe Ordered Into Kupwara Encounter.

The district authorities in Kupwara have ordered a magisterial enquiry into last month’s anti-militancy operation in which the government forces had claimed to have killed four militants, including three Pakistani nationals.

According to an official spokesperson, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Lolab has been appointed as enquiry officer to conduct the magisterial probe under section 176 Cr.P.c in the anti-militancy operation at Chandigam Lolab on June 19 resulting in the killing of 4 militants.

“In this connection, the general public is hereby informed that if any person has any kind of information regarding the subject. He/she may submit or record his/her statement in the office of SDM Lolab within 07 days from the date of publishing of this notice,” he said.

On June 20, a police spokesperson had claimed that four Lashkar-e-Taiba militants — Bambar Khan, Al-Bakash, Aftab Bhai of Pakistan besides Showket Ahmad Sheikh of Sedow village in Shopian were killed in an encounter in Chandigam area of Lolab.

He had further claimed that it was on Sheikh’s disclosure that the operation was carried out. Sheikh, he had said, was the mastermind behind an IED blast in a private vehicle in which one soldier was killed and others injured.
