At least ten people have been arrested from Maisuma area of Srinagar and its adjoining areas after protests hit the area on Wednesday following the verdict of Mohamed Yasin Malik.

A Police official said that the youth were accused of stone-pelting and anti-national sloganeering in Maisuma area of Srinagar , which is always known to be the hub of protests.

After the videos of the protest went viral over social media, the Police picked up ten persons for “anti-national sloganeering & stone-pelting” in Maisuma on Wednesday, the official said.

The youth will have been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for trying to disrupt the law and order situation. “Other than Maisuma the situation remained peaceful,” the official said.

Pertinently on Wednesday protests erupted in Maisuma after Mohammed Yasin Malik, the JKLF chairman was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Court in New Delhi.

Yasin Malik did not plead his case and told the court that “he will not beg for justice”.
