At least three Kashmir students, pursuing professional courses in Punjab were allegedly beaten up on Monday for allegedly ‘speaking loud’ in another incident of violence against students from the valley.

Mohmmad Saqlain, a student, told Kashmir Observer that at around 10:00 PM on Monday, some goons knocked on the door of students and dragged them out before beating them “mercilessly”.

“When they opened the door, they were dragged out by over 30 members of the society and some hired goons and then thrashed and abused,” Saqlain said.

He said the society members were alleging that the students were talking in “high tone” at night and used to disturb them–a claim the students denied.

Two students belong to Central Kashmir’s Budgam district while one is from North Kashmir’s Baramulla District.

Saqlain said the students are traumatized and don’t want to be identified as their parents will get worried.

He said that the trio were admitted to a local hospital and were discharged after a few hours.

“However their conditions are stable,” he said.

Two students are studying at Rameshwar Institute of Management and Information Technology (RIMIT) while another one is studying at Guru Gobind Singh College of Management and Technology (GGSCMT).

The student alleged that the police weren’t taking the matter seriously and the culprits are yet to be booked.

However, Punjab police in a tweet said that the complaint has been forwarded to the concerned police station for the action.

“The complaint is further forwarded to Sasnagar Police station for immediate legal action,” police tweeted.

The Punjab Police have started probing an incident inside a housing society in Kharar late on Monday evening. The assailants have not been identified so far.
