4 Injured, Several Trapped As Tunnel Collapses In Ramban, J&K.

Several people are feared trapped after a portion of an under-construction tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district collapsed in the early hours of Friday.

Two persons have been taken out of the rubble even as rescue operations are underway.

A small portion of the front side of the tunnel at Khoni nallah collapsed during an audit, reported news agency PTI.

Multiple tunnels are being constructed on the Banihal-Ramban section of the road which is the most difficult portion of the ambitious four-laning of the highway.

Union minister Jitendra Singh took to Twitter to share more information about the situation. He said that rescue operations were underway and going on in full swing. He added that civil administration and police authorities were monitoring the situation.

As per officials, a small portion of the front side of the tunnel at Khoni nallah collapsed on Thursday night during an audit, adding that a joint rescue operation was launched immediately by police and the Army.

“A part of an under-construction tunnel collapsed at Khooni Nala, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the Makerkote area of Ramban. 6 to 7 feared trapped; one person rescued. Rescue operation is underway,” Ramban Deputy Commissioner was quoted as saying by ANI.

Due to the ongoing rescue operation, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been shut down.
