4532 Persons in Jammu Kashmir Jails, 410 Detained Under UAPA.

Official figures have revealed that 4532 undertrials are lodged in jails of Jammu Kashmir, while 1442 are involved in drug-related crimes.

Of them 1421 are males and 21 are females, the data released by J&K’s Prison department reveals.

Of those involved in cases registered under” The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act – 1985”, 286 are in the age group of 18-25, 569 in the age group of 25-35, 355 in the age group of 35-45, 199 in the age group of 45-60 and 33 are beyond 60 years of age.

According to the data, 1229 undertrials are lodged in prisons for their involvement in murders. Of them 1129 are males and 100 are females.

The data also reveals that 410 persons are lodged in jails under the cases registered under the Unlawful (Activities) Prevention Act- 1967.

Of them, 165 are in the age group of 18-25, 150 in age group of 25-35, 64 in age group of 35-45, 28 in age group of 45-60 and three are beyond 60 years of age.

According to the figures, 304 persons are lodged in jails of J&K under cases registered against them under the Arms Act.

The data also shows that 43 persons were in jails for dowry-related deaths and 39 for crimes against women.

As per figures, 18 undertrials are in jail under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act- a law enacted by the Parliament to protect children from offences of sexual harassment—(KNO)
