9 Killed As Vehicle Carrying Wedding Guests Crashes In Poonch.

At least nine people are feared dead while four others injured after a cab carrying wedding guests plunged into a gorge in the mountainous Surankote area of Poonch district on Thursday.

According to reports, a sumo (JK12- 2725) carrying guests from a marriage ceremony was on its way towards Bufliaz, when the cab skidded-off the road and rolled down into a 300-feet gorge at Tarran Wali area of Surankote on Thursday afternoon.

The people on-board the ill-fated cab were returning home after attending a wedding at Morah when the driver reportedly lost control over his vehicle.

Reports said that six occupants died on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries on their way to the hospital. Four other injured are being treated by the doctors at the Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri.

The victims have been identified as Ghulam Rabani, Mohammad Fazal, Mohammad Mushtaq, all residents of Salian, Fazal Ahmed, Gulab Din, both from Gursai, Mohammad Jahangir, Mohammad Akbar Abid Kohli and Showkat Hussain, all residents of Dingla.

The injured including driver of the vehicle— Zaheer Abass of Gursai besides Anaya Shoket of Dingla, Haroon of Gursai and Mohammad Zabir of Gursai were referred from Sub-district hospital (SDH) Surankote to GMC Rajouri, Block Medical Officer (BMO)Surankote Dr Zulfikar Choudhary told a local news agency GNS.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the tragic road accident

“Extremely pained by the loss of lives due to a tragic road accident in Poonch. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for speedy recovery of the injured. Directed district administration to ensure best possible treatment to the injured,” Sinha wrote on his official Twitter handle.
