Singing With Style : Umer Nazir.

Umer Nazir is a famous singer from Ganderbal, Kashmir who is known for hit songs like Rinda Ho that went viral on release, Dilbaro and Ladishah reprise which were all adored by the listeners.

Winner of Kashmiri singing show ‘Milay Surr‘ Umer has learned classical singing and music from Kashmir University and Mumbai University Umer has a emerged as one the most talented singers of the valley.

Umer was set on his musical path from an early age as his father was a musician and a composer himself. He used to bring CD’s cassettes of various folk singers from the sub continent which Umer grew up listening and had an influence in his career.

The new generation singer cites folk singer Maqsood Bhat from Sopore as his inspiration in music. Soon afterwards he enrolled in Kashmir University completing his bachelors in Indian Classical Music.

2010, proved to be a landmark year for Umer as he participated in Kashmir’s singing contest ‘Milay Surr‘ and won the competition. This motivated him further and he then pursued masters in Indian classical music from Mumbai University.

Slowly but steadily he made a reputation for himself and recorded various songs. However it was the song ‘Rinda Ho‘ which was put on YouTube in 2020 that made Umer a overnight hit. In a few days the song had crossed over a few lakh views.

Umer even says that there were days when ‘Rinda Ho‘ was getting one-two lakh views in a day with over 5.5 lakh views in a day being the peak.

The sudden and overwhelming success of this song led to massive interest from all parts of the valley and Umer hasn’t looked back since then.

He has come up with one hit after another with ‘Dilbaro, ‘Dil kar Samandar‘ doing great numbers. Another one of his songs ‘Ladishah Reprise‘ was a huge hit among listeners as Umer combined the traditional Ladishah art with contemporary music making for a catchy song.

Most recently his song ‘Loala Baryo‘ has once again achieved great success with people showering Umer with praise and love. The video has thus far garnered 4.5 lakh views in a little over ten days.

Umer says one must explore himself as an artist to completely master any talent they have. Having learned music professionally, he stresses that it is important to learn your craft from those who know it and increase the depth of knowledge about any work.

One of the key aspects of Umer’s singing and which he thinks every artist should be able to come up with is versatility and the ability to adapt to various scenarios to thrive in a challenging industry.

Umer also believes that one must keep brushing up their talent and add new things to their reserves as raw and natural talent would only take you that far. As such it is important to keeping improvising and learning and come up with regular content to sustain success at the highest level.
