PSL 7: Openers Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan powered their way through the Lahore Qalandars bowling to record the highest ever chase in PSL history, leaving Qalandars distraught in an entertaining match.

Batting first, Fakhar Zaman led the charge for Qalandars who have come into this season with a new captain in Shaheen Afridi. Fakhar scored a 22-ball 50 and added 89 runs for the opening wicket with  Abdullah Shafique.

After Fakhar’s departure for 76 runs, Multan were able to check the flow of runs. Kamran Ghulam kept the scoreboard ticking and cameos from Rashid Khan and David Wiese helped Lahore post a daunting 206/5 in 20 overs.

In response Shan Masood and Rizwan made light work of Lahore’s potent attack with Shahen Afridi himself rather ineffective.

The duo posted a 150 run opening stand, with Masood scoring at a brisk rate, his 50 coming off just 28 balls. Rizwan too scored his half century in the same amount of balls.

Rashid Khan then broke the opening stand getting rid of Masood. With 51 needed of 30 balls, Rizwan was dismissed by Shaheen which brought Qalandars back into the game.

Shaheen who had given away 39 runs in his 3 overs, bowled an excellent 19th over, giving away just one run, while picking up two wickets.

With 16 needed off the final over, Haris Rauf, usually reliable with the ball couldn’t find his length and was punished by Khushdil Shah, hitting 3 boundaries on first 3 balls and ending with a six to leave Qalandars stunned and Sultans with two wins in two games.

Brief scores:

Lahore Qalandars 206 for 5 in 20 overs (Fakhar Zaman 76, Kamran Ghulam 43; Khushdil Shah 1-14)

Multan Sultans 209 for 5 in 19.4 overs (Shan Masood 83, Mohammad Rizwan 69; Shaheen Afridi 3-40, Rashid Khan 1-28)
