PSL 7: Fast bowler Naseem Shah picked up his maiden five-wicket haul as Quetta Gladiators beat Karachi Kings to record their first win of the season.

Having lost the opening match to Multan, Karachi were once again batting first. Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam made a steady start but soon found themselves in trouble.

Sharjeel was foxed by Sohail Tanvir, who also accounted for Joe Clarke’s wicket. Naseem Shah then burst onto the scene with two wickets in two balls. First getting Tom Lammonby and Mohammad Nabi.

Naseem would continue the impressive spell dismissing Lewis Gregory, leaving Kings at 34/5 in seven overs.

Babar held one end but his resistance was ended by Mohammad Hasnain in the 12th over. Imad Wasim scored a battling 26 off 22, helping his side past 100, however Naseem Shah wrapped up things picking the last two wickets, claiming his first 5-wicket haul and Karachi were bundled for 113 runs in 17.3 overs.

Ahsan Ali and Will Smeed got Quetta off to a comfortable start chasing a small target. And despite a lull in run making with Imad and Mohammad Nabi bowling, the chase never looked in danger.

Will Smeed was dismissed by Mohammad Imran and Ben Duckett run out after a mix up, making for a nervy spell for Gladiators. However, the impressive Ahsan Ali scored three consective fours to bring up his second fifty in as many games.

Captain Sarfaraz then knocked off the winning runs, leaving Karachi Kings with two defeats in their opening two matches and a lot of questions.

Brief scores:

Karachi Kings 113 in 17.3 overs (Babar Azam 32, Imad Wasim 26; Naseem Shah 5-20).

Quetta Gladiators 114/2 in 15.5 overs (Ahsan Ali 57*, Will Smeed 30; Mohammad Imran 1-23).
