End Of An Era: MS Dhoni Steps Down As CSK Captain, Ravindra Jadeja To Lead Side In IPL 2022.

MS Dhoni, who was the most expensive buy at the inaugural IPL auction in 2008, and captained the Chennai Super Kings franchise in every edition of the tournament has stepped down from his role, handing over the reigns to Ravindra Jadeja.

“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” read a statement from CSK.

With Dhoni as the captain, CSK also hoisted the IPL trophy on four occasions – 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. Moreover, CSK also ended up as the runners-up on five occasions – 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019.

When the franchise returned to action in 2018, Dhoni led from the front by aggregating 455 runs at an average of 75.83 and at an impressive strike rate of 150.66. Eventually, CSK went on to hoist the trophy by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final.

Meanwhile, Jadeja, who has been with the CSK set-up since 2012, will become the third cricketer to lead CSK. Suresh Raina once took over the mantle of leading the side against Yorkshire in the Champions League held in South Africa in October 2012.
