A independent Sarpanch was shot dead by unidentified militants in Pattan area of Baramulla district in North Kashmir on Friday.
Manzoor Ahmad Bangroo, an independent Sarpanch was shot dead by unknown militants in an orchard in his native Goshbug village of Pattan on Friday evening, officials said.
They said Bangroo had received multiple bullet injuries in the militant attack and was taken to the hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Soon after the incident, police and army reached the spot and launched a search operation to nab the attackers. However, no one was arrested when the last reports came in.

The killing of Bangroo comes over a month after militants shot dead a Sarpanch inside his home in Khonmoh area of the city outskirts here.
On March 9, militants barged into the house of Sarpanch Sameer Ahmad Bhat in Khonmoh area of Srinagar and fired indiscriminately upon him. Bhat, who sustained critical gunshot injuries in the attack, was immediately shifted to SMHS hospital for the treatment where he succumbed.
Meanwhile, J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha and several mainstream parties condemned the killing of Sarpanch and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
“Perpetrators of this despicable act shall be punished. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief,” LG Sinha said in a tweet.
Taking to its official Twitter handle, the National Conference said that the “vicious cycle of violence” seems to be unending.
“JKNC condemns the gruesome killing of BJP Sarpanch Manzoor Ahmad in North Kashmir’s Goshbugh, Pattan in the strongest possible terms. The vicious cycle of violence seems to be unending. May Allah grant him a place in Jannat-ul-Firdous. Condolences to his family and loved ones,” the NC Tweeted.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also expressed deep sorrow over the killing of the Panchayat members.
“Deeply pained by the news of killing of a Sarpanch Manzoor Ah Bangroo in Pattan. Even after multiple security assesments,bundling them in secure accomodations in Srinagar, why do sarpanches still continue to be killed,” the PDP Tweeted.
In a statement issued here, Apni Party condemned the deadly attack on an independent Sarpanch and said that the “bloodshed would never pave way towards tranquility and the violence in all its forms need to stop”.
The spokesperson also stated that Kashmir has witnessed violence since years altogether and the people of Kashmir have been used as a mere scapegoat to fulfill the vested interests.
” I unequivocally condemn this inhumane act on Manzoor Ahmed Bangroo. My sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. I would pray for the strength to the family members to bear the irreparable loss. I hope justice is served at its earliest and the perpetrators of the crime are brought to justice” the spokesperson said.
