Cricket fans were treated to a rare sight of Indian and Pakistani cricketers playing together as Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohammad Rizwan century stand for English country Sussex on Sunday.

Pujara made 203 — his third century in three matches for Sussex, with wicketkeeper Rizwan making his home debut for the county made 79.

The pair put on 154 for the sixth wicket at Hove as Sussex piled up 538 runs in response to Durham score of 223 in first innings.

Ever since India cut bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan after attacks in Mumbai in 2008, the two teams only compete against each other in international multi team events.

Pakistan players also do not play in the IPL one of the richest sports leagues in the world.

But fans on both sides have expressed a desire for more cricket between two countries and participation from players across borders in their respective franchise leagues.

While that may remain a far possibility, incidents such as Pujara and Rizwan forging a partnership together in a county match will be the closest we will come to see two nations together on cricket field for some time.
