India vs South Africa: David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen put up an unbeaten 131-run stand off just 63 balls as South Africa beat India in the first T20I in Delhi.

South Africa had won the toss and put India to bat on a placid track. India showed an attacking from the beginning.

Openers Ishan Kishan and  Ruturaj Gaikwad despite a tricky start scored 51 runs in the PowerPlay

Gaikwad then departed as the returning Wayne Parnell got his wicket, but the assault continue. Another 50 runs were added from overs 6-10.

Shreyas Iyer and Kishan looked ruthless especially against left arm spinners Shamsi and Maharaj taking them for 70 runs in their combined 5 overs.

Ishan Kishan powered his way to a half century finally getting out for a thunderous 76-run knock off just 48 balls.

After that stand-in captain Rishabh Pant scored a quick fire 29 off 16 balls and Hardik Pandya capped off the innings with a impressive 31* off 12 balls as India posted 211/4 in 20 overs, their highest score against South Africa in T20Is.

South Africa began their reply poorly as captain Temba Bavuma was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

In a gamble of a move Dwaine Pretorius was promoted to No.3. It paid off big time as Pretorius hit 4 sixes to score 29 off 13 balls taking his side to 61 runs in the first six overs before being bowled by Harshal Patel.

That set the tone for what was to come next. After Quinton de Kock was fell with the score 81/3 in 9 overs, India seemed firm favorities.

With 126 needed off the final 10 overs and Van Dussen struggling to get going scoring only 20 off 21, David Miller took matter into his own hands.

The southpaw found a new leash of life in IPL 2022, carried his form here. Miller hit a six and a four off Harshal Patel in the 12th over and followed that up by plundering 19 off the next from Axar Patel.

He continued the assault bringing up his 50 in just 22 balls. The chase wa still steep but then Van Dussen found his hitting range.

He clubbed Harshal Patel for three sixes and a four in an over to cut the chase down to size. Dussen fired past his half century finishing with 75 off 46 balls and along with Miller who scored 64* off 31, helped South Africa to record their highest successful chase in T20Is.

The defeat for India also ended their quest for a record-setting 13th straight win in T20I cricket.

Brief scores:

India 211/4 in 20 overs (Ishan Kishan 76, Hardik Pandya 31*; Wayne Parnell 1-32)

South Africa 212/3 in 19.1 overs (Rassie van der Dussen 75*, David Miller 64*; Axar Patel 1-40)
