Srinagar Saturday recorded coldest night of the season so far even as Meteorological Department has predicted more cold nights in the coming weeks.




MeT officials said that Srinagar recorded minus 0.5 degrees Celsius during the night. “Other parts of Kashmir also recorded minimum temperatures several notches below the freezing point,” MeT Director Sonam Lotus told Greater Kashmir.

Lotus said that there will be gradual decrease in temperature in coming days. “The night temperatures fell several notches below the freezing point because of clear night sky. The clear night sky will remain for about 10 more days,” Lotus said adding that coming 10 nights would be colder.

MeT director said that so far there is no prediction of rain or snow for coming 10 days. “Predictions change in rare cases,” he said.MeT officials said that the tourist resort of Pahalgam recorded minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, ski resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, Leh minus 7.1 degrees Celsius and Kargil in Ladakh region recorded minus 6.1 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu region, MeT officials said the minimum temperatures were generally above the freezing point. They said Jammu city recorded 10.6 degrees Celsius, Katra recorded 11.3 degrees Celsius, Banihal 0.5 Degrees Celsius, Batote 4.9 degrees Celsius and Bahderwah 2.4 degrees Celsius.
