The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday said that the “Har Ghar Tiranga” is totally a voluntary initiative while insisting there was no compulsion to hoist tricolor atop residential houses or commercial establishment.

Pole said that every individual who wants to host the flag on their house or shop on August 13-15 is welcome and that the government will provide the flag at a reasonable cost.

“Let me make it clear that there is no compulsion and insistence, whosoever wants to do it is welcome,” Pole told Kashmir Observer.

He further added that people need to follow the proper flag code and administration will be sensitised about the same.

Ahead of the 75th Independence day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday appealed to people to strengthen the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement by hoisting or displaying the national flag in their homes between August 13-15.

In a series of tweets, PM Modi said this movement will deepen our connection with the Tricolour and noted that it was on July 22 in 1947 that the Tricolour was adopted.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir government nominated nodal officers in respective districts for the implementation of “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative in the Kashmir Division.

On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha urged all citizens to strengthen the Har Ghar Tiranga movement, ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

Earlier, controversy erupted after a video of National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah while responding to a question of a reporter told him that it (flag) should be kept in one’s house.
