Pakistan is one of the nations ICC is considering for its events as the new cycle for World events hosting right begins from 2024-2031.
The ICC men white ball events from 2024-2031 will consist of two ODI World Cups, four T20 World Cups and two Champions Trophies. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to bid for 5 of these events.
Pakistan, it is learnt, will bid to host the Champions Trophy alone, while for the World Cups it will make a joint bid along with any other Asian countries, minus India. It may bid with the UAE, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The PCB believes it can hold the ICC Champions Trophy, a prime eight-team event, at four available venues in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan. It is expected to complete the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad next year to also consider it as a venue for international matches.
This is significant development for a cricket mad nation that lasted hosted a major event in the form of 1996 World Cup.
An independent committee formed by the game’s global governing body will assess the bids in December this year to give its report for a final decision next year.
A separate process to determine the hosts of the World Test Championship finals as well as Women’s and Under-19 events during this cycle will begin later this year.
