The upper reaches of Kashmir, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Gurez valley on Tuesday received a fresh spell of snowfall, while the plains witnessed rains from late afternoon.
During the day, various parts of Kashmir witnessed gusty winds as well.
The Meteorological Department (MeT) had on Monday predicted a forecast of a brief spell of rain and light snowfall over the higher reaches between November 4 and 5.
The MeT also issued an advisory in view of the expected thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at a few places on Tuesday evening.
There was a significant drop in the temperature with the fresh spell of snowfall in the higher reaches and rains in the plains, coupled with gusty winds at various locations.

On Tuesday, Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received a fresh spell of snowfall, while around 3 inches of snow also accumulated at Razdan Top.
Fresh snowfall was also witnessed in Gurez valley, Sonamarg, Doodhpathri, Farkin Top area of Kupwara.
“Around 5 inches of snow accumulated at Farkin Top,” an official said.
While the higher reaches remained blanketed under snow, the plains received rain till late evening.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Director MeT Srinagar, Mukhtar Ahmad, said the weather will improve from midnight onwards.
“Some higher reaches received fresh snowfall due to a western disturbance, but the weather will improve from midnight, and dry weather is expected up to November 17,” Ahmad said.
On October 6, north Kashmir’s Gulmarg received the season’s first snowfall.
