Six tourists were injured on Friday after a lift of a hotel collapsed, officials said. The untoward incident occurred at a private hotel in Hyderpora locality.

The incident occurred while the tourists were using the lift at the hotel where they were staying. Officials said the lift is believed to have developed a technical fault, though the exact sequence of events leading to the mishap remains unclear.

Doctors confirmed that the victims sustained injuries primarily to their legs and lower body. Medical authorities confirmed that all patients are in stable condition and are undergoing treatment.

The injured individuals have been identified as members of a tourist group visiting the Valley.

Authorities have initiated a preliminary assessment to determine the exact cause of the incident.

The injured have been identified as Vinkatesh, 65, son of Muni Thimmaiah; D. Mangula, 54, wife of R.L. Murthy; Kushalla, 18, daughter of Jayaram; Pankaja, 16; Venkatalakshmamma, 60, wife of Chinnya; and Sowbhagya, 60, wife of Vinkatesh. All are residents of Bengaluru and were temporarily staying at the hotel at the time of the incident.

This incident has once again highlighted the importance of stringent safety checks and maintenance protocols, especially in hotels catering to a growing number of tourists in the region.

Experts say routine inspection of critical infrastructure such as lifts, fire safety systems and electrical fittings is essential to prevent such incidents, especially during peak tourist season.

Further investigation is underway, and more details are expected as officials examine whether any negligence contributed to the accident.

Officials said no formal statement has been issued by the hotel management so far.
