England v India : Its advantage India after Day 1 of first Test at Trent Bridge.

India began their tour of England in impressive fashion as they bowled out the hosts for 183 runs on the opening day of the first Test in Nottingham.

The Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul then saw off the day without the loss of any wicket to put in their side at advantage heading into the 2nd day.

Fast bowlers answer the call for India.

India went into the match without senior bowlers Ishant Sharma and R. Ashwin, which caused much debate. This Indian team is now known for studying the conditions better and make necessary changes. Given the quality in depth of this side it was always about picking the right fit for the conditions.

Fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami picked 7 wickets between them to skittle England on day 1. Bumrah dismissed Rory Burns in first over of the Test and they never quite recovered from that.

From 66 for 3, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root began the repair work and threatened a match changing partnership. But that is when Shami came in and trapped him lbw to trigger a collapse.

England’s last 6 wickets fell for just 45 runs. Joe Root was once again the standout scoring 64 of 108 balls. His resistance came to an end when he was dismissed by Shardul Thakur, giving India clear daylight in this match on the first day.

Scorecard:

India 21 for 0 trail England 183 (Root 64, Bumrah 4-46, Shami 3-28) by 162 runs
