West indies v Pakistan: West Indies beat Pakistan by one wicket in a thrilling contest to go one nil up in the 2-Test Match series at Sabina Park.

Chasing 168 runs for victory, the hosts found themselves in trouble early on. Shaheen Afridi ran through the top order reducing the batting side to 16/3.

Pakistan had a firm grip on the match but Jermaine Blackwood and Roston Chase held started the repair job. The duo batted with patience and forged a crucial 68 run partnership.

However, Faheem Ashraf dismissed Roston Chase and then Kyle Mayers in quick succession. Jermaine Blackwood completed his half century before been sent back by Hasan Ali, who also got rid of Jason Holder. This meant West Indies were 114/7, with only tail left to play.

Kemar Roach who had held an end till that point started causing Pakistan probelms. He combined with Joshua Da Silva to give his side hope.

They were helped by Pakistan’s poor fielding. Roach was dropped by the usually reliable Rizwan. Hasan dropped him as well in the deep with 19 runs still to get. In the final session, Da Silva was once again dropped by Abbas.

Rizwan then pulled off a spectacular catch to leave West Indies 9 down with 17 still to get. But as fate would have it the game boiled down to Hasan Ali and Kemar Roach. An edge of the pacer’s delivery went behind a valiant dive from Rizwan to reach the boundary and set up a box-office win for West Indies.

West Indies 253 (Brathwaite 97, Holder 58, Afridi 4-59) and 168 for 9 (Blackwood 55, Roach 30*, Afridi 4-50) beat Pakistan 217 (Fawad 56, Holder 3-26, Seales 3-70) and 203 (Azam 55, Seales 5-55, Roach 3-30) by one wicket
