In their first press conference since taking over Afghanistan, Taliban assured that women in the country will have rights within Islamic law and that media will remain independent.

Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban’s spokesperson spoke to media outlets assuring them that no harm will come to those who worked with previous Afghann government or foreign forces.

“War has ended… (the leader) has pardoned everyone,” spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said, adding:”We are committed to letting women work in accordance with the principles of Islam.”

Mujahid promised the Taliban would honor women’s rights, but within the norms of Islamic law. He said the group wanted private media to “remain independent,” but stressed journalists “should not work against national values.”

Mujahid also added that foreign embassies in the country will be safe and pledges to all countries that no threat will be posed to them.

The group also stressed that no threat will be posed to any country from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

The Islamic emirate is pledging to all world countries that no threat will be posed to any country from Afghanistan,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told reporters as he announced an Islamic government will be established in Afghanistan soon.

“We want to establish a government that includes all sides,” he said, adding that they want an end to the war.

“We don’t want any internal or external enemies. We do not have enmity toward anyone and based on our leader’s orders we have pardoned everyone,” he said
