An Imam (a prayer leader) was allegedly beaten to the pulp by army’s 22RR near fruit Mandi Sopore on bypass road on Sunday.
Family sources said that Qari Naseer Ahmad Sheikh (28), a resident of Halmatpora village of Kupwara was returning home from Khanqah-e-Moula area of Srinagar where he leads prayers at a Mosque.
“He was told by Army to come out of the vehicle near Sopore bypass road. Following instructions, Sheikh was taken to a nearby orchard where army men tied him with the tree before beating ruthlessly”, said a family member.
Sheikh was initially admitted at sub-district Hospital Kupwara for treatment where from doctors shifted him to Srinagar Hospital for treatment.
