‘You Want Us To Ban Industries in Pakistan’? asks Supreme Court After UP Govt Blames Pak For Air Pollution.

After Uttar Pradesh government’s outrageous claim that polluted air from Pakistan was affecting the air quality in Delhi, the Supreme Court asked the UP Government if it wanted the court to impose a ban on Pakistan’s industries.

“Do you want us to ban Pakistan’s industries,” Chief Justice of India NV Ramana asked Senior advocate Ranjit Kumar, appearing for the UP government when he argued that polluted air from Pakistan was affecting the air quality in Delhi.

Ranjit Kumar submitted that the industries in UP have no role to play in the national capital’s pollution as all the state industries are downwind and the polluted air doesn’t go towards Delhi.

The UP government had objected to the closure of industries. It said that the Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas’s (CAQM) decision to allow industries to work only 8 hours will affect the sugarcane and dairy industries.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana was hearing a plea on air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region.
