Hurriyat Conference (G) on Wednesday accepted Syed Ali Geelani as “lifetime chairman” while Shabir Ahmad Shah was appointed as his deputy.
In an advisory council meeting held under the chairmanship of Geelani, the prevailing political situations in Kashmir was discussed and some vital changes were made in the organizational structure under article 20 of the Hurriyat constitution.
“The members in the meeting said that most of the pro-freedom leaders and parties of Jammu & Kashmir have assembled under the banner of Hurriyat Conference and seeing the unshakable, steadfast, uncompromised and active leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, the Hurriyat conference had accepted him as its lifetime Chairman,” said a party statement.
It added that the Chairman constituted different committees and cells according to which Shabir Ahmad Shah was made Secretary General while Ghulam Nabi Sumji and Masarat Alam Bhat were appointed as deputies to the secretary general.
