Bangladesh recorded a historic 8-wicket win over Test World Champions New Zealand, ending Kiwis 17-match unbeaten run on home soil.

This marks as a seminal moment in Bangladesh cricket history as they upset the World Champions in their own backyard.

The hosts were dismissed for a meagre 169 in their second innings, with the visitors knocking off the 40 runs required for victory for the loss of two wickets as Bangladesh beat New Zealand in a Test match for the first time.

This was also Bangladesh’s first ever in New Zealand and only their sixth in 61 away Tests.

The match was wrapped up in one session on the final day as Ebadot Hossain took a career best six for 46 and New Zealand were bundled out for 169 in their second innings.

Bangladesh had previously lost all 32 matches played in New Zealand across all formats, including nine Tests, and they arrived to start this tour following back-to-back losses at home to Pakistan.

In the first innings, New Zealand had posted an impressive 328, Devon Conway top-scoring with 122.

However,, Bangladesh staged a strong comeback with 458 runs in response, with four players – Mominul (88), Liton Das (86), Mahmudul Hasan Joy (78) and Najmul (64) reaching half-centuries.

This is Bangladesh’s first win in any format of the game in New Zealand and gives them a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
